Remember the hopes of Myanmar

Hope and optimism are irrepressible but there is a deep underlying premonition that the opposition to change is likely to be vicious

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Freedom from Fear, 1991

Today is Sean Turnell’s birthday. He is a Professor of Economics from MacQuarie University, Australia. He advised Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the democratic government on how to improve the economy for everyone in Myanmar, to make it fairer for everyone and to help pay for improvements in healthcare and education

The military junta hate all these things. So they imprisoned Sean at the start of the coup and have made up charges against him that are not true.

Sean is one of many people taken by the military. As of today, there are over 10 000 people detained in Myanmar for the “crime” of wanting to be free.

Please remember Sean and his family, and help campaign for his release, and for that of all those unjustly held by the junta.
